THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE by STEPHEN CRANE (1/3)

Dear Son,
It was a lovely experience to have you come home yesterday and show your excitement as you discussed this author you were just assigned in English class.  You said you were assigned THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE by Stephen Crane.  This gives me the reason to post on one of three special editions we have of this book, the first being from The First Edition Library.

The First Edition Library publishes books exactly as they were first released.  In this case, THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE was first published without a dust jacket by D. Appleton and Company on Oct. 5, 1895. Its original retail price was $1.00.  It looked like these photos--and aren't the original red, black and gold inks lovely!

This reprint includes the original typo and the original advertisements, which is why Page 235 features books by Gilbert Parker:

This is one of three editions we have of this book.  When I stumble across the others, I will post on this title again -- with about 7,000 throughout the house, I can't keep track of where every single volume lies.  But this is a wonderful book and I know you will enjoy it.

Love,
Mom
